Tammie’s Take Thursday:  Refurbished Rooms at Coronado Springs Resort (CSR)

Up until last fall, Disney Coronado Springs Resort had never been on the top of my list to stay at.  After staying there last November, I find myself asking “Why not?”. This little hidden gem between Disney Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom quickly soared to the top of my list as a favorite moderate resort.   Disney Coronado Springs theming is inspired by northern Mexico and the American Southwest and set around a 22-acre-lake.

Currently, Disney Coronado Springs Resort is going through a major construction. Walt Disney World is adding a 15-story tower to Coronado Springs Resort which will add 500 rooms to the resort and be located near the main complex, El Centro.

Honestly, I didn’t even notice the construction except for when I was arriving or departing the resort and never heard anything. I am not going to share much about the resort as a whole, since by the time I stay there again everything will have changed.  But I will tell you that I found the pool, “Lost City of Cibola” to be excellent and the grounds beautiful.

Disney Coronado Springs is divided up into 3 sections, the Ranchos (Southwestern Cattle Ranch), Cabanas (Mexican Beach Resort) and Casitas (Spanish architecture from Mexico).  In addition to the tower being built, there are ongoing room refurbishments to the existing rooms during the expansion of Disney Coronado Springs. This is my take on the room renovation in the Ranchos Section ….

When I received my room assignment text for the Rancheros, I was not pleased for several reasons… I wanted to be in a refurbished room, this section is the farthest away from El Centro and to me seemed most like the environment that I am from in my everyday life (I like to have new experiences on vacation),  but as I made my way to my room I found myself appreciating the walk (er, hike in the rain) thanks to the beautiful job Disney has done with the landscaping.

When I finally found my room (that is a whole different story), I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door because this is what I was expecting…

but I want I got was one of the newly refurbished rooms.  (Disney Magic Moment)

IMG_1104

The room has a beautiful modern, clean and  airy look to it in rich earth tone colors. The 2 queen beds are on a raised platform (leaving a wide open space underneath to store suitcases) and have massive headboard with reading lights above each bed.

Between the two beds is a nightstand with enough convenient USB ports to charge all of your devices at once, telephone and a small thank you gift for putting up with the construction. The in-room safe is located in the middle of this table. I love the 3 Amigo artwork located throughout the room, just enough Disney to remind you where you are.

Across from the beds is one very long desk with built in drawers for storage and many more USB outlets.  I loved the reading light at the desk. There is also a mini-fridge, a Keurig coffee maker with coffee pods and ceramic mugs to drink from, and a HUGE flat screen television.  In the corner near the window is a nice comfortable sitting chair. In all of the refurbished rooms across different resorts, Disney is removing the carpet and laying laminate type flooring, here wood laminate.  I find this a welcome change and so much cleaner feeling overall.

The bathroom is separated from the sleeping area with barn doors.  I love being able to shut the bathroom off from the rest of the room.  The bathroom has a double marble vanity with lots of counter space and cupboards.  The closet has been replaced with a stand-up unit that houses the ironing board and iron.  The bathroom itself is pretty basic, but the rain shower head was delightful.

Rancheros section was so far away from the main part of the resort, El Centro, but the bus stop was right out the door which was an added plus for wanting to get to the parks quickly. The actual walk to El Centro only took about 10 minutes, I could have taken the bus as the last stop was El Centro before leaving to the parks but then I would have missed the beauty of Coronado Springs.  The “Dig Site” was a short 5 minute walk.

When selecting a resort, my biggest WANT is to be able to come back and relax after a full morning or day in the parks.

There’s something to say for being able to return to the resort with the ability to enjoy the most relaxing atmosphere possible. Can I come back and truly relax at Coronado Springs?  Yes, I from everything I experienced at Coronado Springs Resort it fits the relaxation requirement, so much so that I know recommend this resort to my clients despite the construction as my first choice in moderate resorts.

Looking for advice where to stay for your Walt Disney World Resort?  I have personally stayed most of the on-site Walt Disney World Resort Hotels and can give you an honest opinion on the rooms as well as the relaxation factor, just ask and when you book your vacation with me I will do everything possible to make the hotel stay just as magical as your park moments.

Friday Fives: 5 Ways to Get Around Walt Disney World

From the moment you step off the plane at Orlando International Airport,  Walt Disney World has your transportation covered. There is no need to rent a car to cover the 45 miles of property. Here are 5 ways to get you where you want to be and most are accessible to guests with disabilities or need who need special assistance…

1 MON1. Monorail-One of the most recognized icons at Walt Disney World is the Monorail, make sure you take a ride…but “Please stand clear of the doors. Por Favor Manténgase Alejado de las Puertas.”  The WDW monorail system has 2 loops…Epcot and Magic Kingdom both can be accessed at the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC).  The Magic Kingdom monorail loop connects the Magic Kingdom to the “monorail” resorts… the Polynesian, Contemporary and Grand Floridian. There is also an Express monorail that runs directly to the Magic Kingdom.  At the TTC you can transfer to the Epcot loop which will take you directly to Epcot.  The monorail starts running around 7 am until an hour after the parks close.

Tip:  If traveling to the Magic Kingdom from the TTC, walk over to the Polynesian Resort and hop on the monorail this will save you time and avoid the crowds waiting to take the ferry across to the Magic Kingdom or waiting for the Express monorail to Magic Kingdom.

2. Bus-You can reach all theme parks, water parks and resort hotels by bus. Buses start running 45 minutes prior to park opening and 2 hours after park closing.  While this being the most accessible form of transportation it is also the most crowded, avoid the  bus immediately after posted park closing times and evening shows.  Disney has recently installed wait time boards at each bus top and are fairly accurate to give an idea when the next bus will arrive.  No matter the resort you stay at, there will be bus issues from time to time depending on traffic conditions, so be patient and kind to your bus driver.

Tip:  Give yourself ample time to get where you are going, I always allot at least 60 minutes to get to my destination. Avoid crowded buses by waiting until the next bus arrives, it should not be too long or be prepared to stand.

3. Boat/Ferry-Not my favorite or most efficient choice for travel but it will get you where you are going.  From the TTC to Magic Kingdom you can take the ferry across the Seven Seas Lagoon.  From each of the monorail resorts (the Polynesian, Contemporary and Grand Floridian plus the Wilderness Lodge) you can take a water taxi across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom and back again.  There is also a boat from the World Showcase Plaza to Germany and Morocco. Epcot, Epcot Resorts (Boardwalk, Beach/Yacht Club, Swan Dolphin) and Disney Hollywood Studios are connected via the Friendship Launch located directly outside the International Gateway of Epcot.  Port Orleans Riverside & French Quarter as well as Saratoga Springs Resort and Old Key West are connected to Disney Springs via boat.

Tip:  While not the fastest transportation option, it can be the most relaxing and peaceful.  Take the either the ferry or one of the water taxis during the Happily Ever After show in the Magic Kingdom for a breathtaking view of the fireworks.

4. Feet-A few resorts are accessible via the old-fashioned method of walking.  Guests at the Contemporary Resort can easily walk to the Magic Kingdom.  If you are staying at one of the Epcot Resorts (Boardwalk, Beach/Yacht Club, or Swan/Dolphin) both Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studios are within walking distance and you will find your feet are faster than other modes of transportation.  Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter are just a minute walk apart along the River.

FEET

Even after a long day at Disney Hollywood Studios, my boys were able to muster enough strength to have a light saber battle while walking back to the Boardwalk.

5. Uber/Taxis/Mears Shuttle-If you want to cut your time in half and don’t mind spending a little money Guest Services at your resort can call for a taxi or shuttle.  Save even more time (and a few dollars) by booking yourself an Uber ride.

All modes of Disney transportation are efficient to get you where you need to be, but take time.  Best of all, except for #5 free to guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort.  So, sit back and let Disney do the “driving.”

Getting around is easy, if you are familiar with transportation from your resort.  As part of my complimentary planning services when you book your Walt Disney World Vacation I will provide you with all the information you need to get to your destination the most efficient and fast way possible.

(almost) Wordless Wednesday: Summer

Once again I am late to (almost) Wordless Wednesday with Focused on the Magic.  But I have a good excuse, working to make a magical vacation for many families in 2018! This week’s topic is Summer, which is perfect timing now that I have finished summer school teaching and have a few short days to actually call my summer vacation.

There is not any place else at Walt Disney World that screams SUMMER than Stormalong Bay even if summer is just a faded memory and the calendar reads November.

4

Stormalong Bay is located at Disney’s Beach & Yacht Club Resort (my personal favorite Walt Disney World Resort)…

With 3 acres to splash around in…including taking the plunge off a pirate ship (via slide), floating along in a lazy river or simply building sand castles along the sandy beach section there is a place for everyone.  But it you really want to get away from it all…

My favorite place is the quiet pool in the DVC section of the Beach Club.  I could spend hours here reading a book and enjoying the sun in complete peace and tranquility…what summer is all about!

Friday Five: What I Love About the Port Orleans Riverside Resort

What a crazy week this has been.  On Tuesday, booking for 2018 Walt Disney World Vacation packaging became available and I found myself very blessed with over 20 quotes to put together for prospective clients. Looking over these reservations, along with the ones I have made throughout my last 6 months as an Authorized Disney Vacation planner I discovered that I am booking many of my clients at Port Orleans Riverside (POR)…

Besides the obvious Southern Hospitality theming and charm, today’s “Friday Five” is going to be dedicated to 5 Things I love about Port Orleans Riverside Resort…

1. Amenities of 2 Resorts

When you stay at Port Orleans Riverside, you get to also use the amenities of Port Orleans French Quarter resort.  What does this mean?  You get double the resort just a short 10-minute walk away… including arcades, evening movies, playgrounds, Cast Member lead activities, Quick Service food courts, and most of all double the pools for pool hopping (one of the few resorts this is allowed).

2. Royal Rooms

My Disney bucket list includes a stay in one of these incredibly themed rooms located in the Magnolia Bend Mansion section of POR. The theme is centered around Princess Tiana (Princess & the Frog) and her royal friends. You’ll find ornate furniture, custom drapes and bedding, royal artwork and my personal favorite…a light-up firework headboard. I can’t think of anything more magic than falling asleep under fireworks.

3. Yeehaw Bob

Port Orleans Riverside, Sassagoula Steamboat Company Main Buildi

Yeehaw Bob” is one of the funniest family-friendly entertainers around and appears at POR every Wednesday through Saturday evenings. He and his dancing piano put on a show that will have you laughing, singing and wanting to get up and dance. “Yeehaw Bob” knows how to get the audience of all ages involved in the show, and there is never a moment of silence during his performance.

4. Sassagoula River Cruise Boats

boat

These open air canopied boats transport guests from Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter to Disney Springs (shopping, dining and entertainment district). This is such a relaxing, enjoyable way to travel and a nice departure from a Disney bus. It’s especially beautiful and serene at night.

5. Carriage Rides

Port Orleans Riverside, Magnolia Bend area

Call me a romantic at heart but Southern Charm just oozes by taking a relaxing horse carriage ride through the woodland pathways and along the river…especially at dusk with the one I love.

The laid-back, quiet, “old south” charm of Port Orleans/Riverside will keep me booking clients at this moderate level Walt Disney Resort hotel.  It is especially perfect for families of 5 like mine.  Want to know more about what Port Orleans Riverside has to offer or a complimentary, no obligation Walt Disney World vacation?  Contact me today and lets start planning a vacation full of magical memories!

(almost) Wordless Wednesday: Disney Details

It’s (almost) Wordless Wednesday!  Each week I join Focused on the Magic and other fellow Disney bloggers to share our Disney vacation photos and memories by blog hopping. This week’s topic is…Details.

There are so many perks that come with staying at a Walt Disney World Resort including

  • Early Access to FastPass+ Planning
  • Extra Magic Hours
  • Complimentary MagicBands
  • Complimentary Transportation & Parking
  • Disney Dining Plans
  • Early Access to Advanced Dining Reservations

But one of the reasons I love most about staying on property is that I may leave the park, but I never leave the magic because Disney knows it’s all about the details!  Welcome Home has new meaning when you step into a Disney Resort Hotel.

One of my favorite stays was at Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Not my normal taste in decor and Disney knew how to make me feel at home on the Savannah from the beautiful rich earth tones to animals outside my balcony…

Animal Kingdom Lodge was home!

With a resort to fit every budget and personal taste, along with all the perks who would want to stay anywhere else?
